There are lots of SB classrooms participating in the 2019 Global Read Aloud. The GRA kicked off on September 30th and students have already made some amazing connections! Here are just a few of the stories happening around the district...
Fifth grade students in Ms. Kleinman's class at Indian Fields were introduced to their GRA buddy class in Niagra Falls, Canada via an awesome Mystery Skype! Now, they are connecting via Flipgrid to learn more about each other and to exchange their thoughts and opinions about the book, Front Desk. Second grade students in Mrs. Sciortino's class at Monmouth Junction are reading Stella Diaz Has Something to Say and after reading the first 4 chapters, they generated a list of questions and submitted them online to the author of the book, Angela Dominguez. And...she answered them!!! If you go to the author's website and click on her Video Blog, check out Part 2 at around the 8:45 minute mark, she gave a shout out to Mrs. Rachel Sciortino's Class. Then, she answers a question Kingston asked about her brother being mean. It was amazing to see his face when she was answering his question!! Check it out here! https://www.angeladominguezbooks.com/blog Second grade students in Mrs. Cornfield's class at Monmouth Junction are reading Stella Diaz Has Something to Say and have already connected with classes in Illinois and Ohio via Flipgrid. Plus, they are also participating in a Digital Postcard Exchange with 34 other schools across the United States, where each class designs a digital postcard about their thoughts about the book and shares it via email. Check out the map of all of the school locations here!
