K - 1 Standards and Integration Ideas
Listed below is the NJCCCS for Technology 8.1. Each standard is listed with the indicators along with integration ideas for each strand, A, B, C, D, E & F. All of these standards must be achieved by the end of Grade 2.
8.1 Educational Technology: All students will use digital tools to access, manage, evaluate, and synthesize information in order to solve problems individually and collaborate and to create and communicate knowledge.
A. Technology Operations and Concepts: Students demonstrate a sound understanding of technology concepts, systems and operations.

- Use an input device to select an item and navigate the screen.
- Navigate the basic functions of a browser.
- Use digital devices to create stories with pictures, numbers, letters and words.
- Use basic technology terms in the proper context in conversation with peers and teachers (e.g., camera, tablet, Internet, mouse, keyboard, and printer).
- Demonstrate the ability to access and use resources on a computing device.
- Identify the basic features of a digital device and explain its purpose.
- Create a document using a word processing application.
- Compare the common uses of at least two different digital applications and identify the advantages and disadvantages of using each.
- Demonstrate developmentally appropriate navigation skills in virtual environments (i.e. games, museums).
INTEGRATION IDEAS:
- Using the iPad, have students create a title page, dedication page, about the author page, etc. using an app such as Scribble Press, StoryKit or other publishing apps.
- Using the camera app, students can take pictures and using the Skitch app on the iPads, create a labeled diagram. Click here to view the Pumpkin Project for 1st graders.
B. Creativity and Innovation: Students demonstrate creative thinking, construct knowledge and develop innovative products and process using technology.
- Create a story about a picture taken by the student on a digital camera or mobile device.
INTEGRATION IDEAS:
- Using the iPad... take a picture with the built-in camera and use the App Scribble Press, Story Kit....... there are many others.
C. Communication and Collaboration: Students use digital media and environments to communicate and work collaboratively, including at a distance, to support individual learning and contribute to the learning of others.
- Collaborate with peers by participating in interactive digital games or activities.
INTEGRATION IDEAS:
- Use Facetime on the iPad to video conference with peers from another class with any content area.
D. Digital Citizenship: Students understand human, cultural, and societal issues related to technology and practice legal and ethical behavior.
- Use the Internet to explore and investigate questions with a teacher’s support.

INTEGRATION IDEAS:
- Using the Safari app on the ipad, model for students how to research information on appropriate educational websites, such as kids.nationalgeographic.org, discoverykids.com, pbskids.org, etc.
